My approach
I do not work without a project plan and a clear strategic path. A project without a plan is like a set of directions without a starting point or a destination. You will never be able to answer the “are we there yet?” question. How will you know when it’s time to celebrate your success? How will you even know what success is?
Here is a brief overview of my process in starting out a new marketing project…
- Initial meeting (either in person or over the phone) – this gives us the chance to chat about your business and for me to learn more about your marketing and communications goals. The most important part of my consulting philosophy is my desire to listen to you. What you have to say is much more important than what I do, at least at this stage in the marketing project. Before I can even start to think about making recommendations, I need to hear from you what is causing you pain and giving you nightmares.
- Project proposal and goal-setting – this gives you the chance to make sure that I am on the same page as you and lets you see my recommendations and project quotation. Marketing tools are not one-size fits all. Just because you think social media is cool, does not necessarily mean it’s right for your business. This is where I lend you my expertise and make suggestions that will fit your marketing and business goals.
- Upon approval, we get going on your project and set up timelines and deliverables.
- Constant communication and checkpoints – I will have questions for you, you will have questions for me and I will always touch base to make sure that we are achieving what was agreed upon and so that you know where your marketing project stands.
- Depending on the type of marketing project, I will either provide analysis and measurement reports, or I will suggest tools for you to handle these metrics on your own.
- Wrap up and hand over – this is where I either hand over the reins to you, or we establish maintenance work on a contract basis.
